Dressmaking & Pattern Cutting Tuition -

One-to-one or small group sessions tailored to your requirements. It could be basic dressmaking skills, getting the most from your sewing machine or overlocker, a specific technique or fitting problem or a project you're stuck on.
You can explore making basic skirt, trouser or bodice blocks from your body measurements and use to make your own stylish, well fitting patterns.
Cost: £50 for half a day + materials
£95 for a full day + materials

Overlocking for beginners, new owners and the terrified!

2 hour session
This 2 hour session will cover all those important basics that will help you tame, control and get the most from your overlocker:
- Changing the needles
- Easy threading
- Identifying and adjusting the tension dials to achieve perfect stitching
- Starting and finishing methods
- Dealing with difficult fabrics such as chiffon and jersey.
- Narrow overlocking
- Rolled hemming
- Overlocker make to take home
Cost: £40.00 including materials and plenty of tea and coffe.
Equipment required: Overlocker, instruction manual, accessories & basic sewing kit.

Monthly Dressmaking & Pattern Cutting Groups
Skidby, York and Barton-upon-Humber
All abilities are very welcome whether you are a complete beginner who wants to learn to make your own clothes or you have skills you would like to refresh, extend and explore. All aspects of dressmaking, using commerical patterns, using your sewing machine or overlocker and how to make garments that actually fit and are professionally finshed.
You can also make basic skirt, trousers and bodice blocks using your own body measurements and learn how to adapt these to make your own stylish well fitting patterns.
Jane leads a short group activity during the session covering those specific dressmaking construction techniques for you to build a portfolio of samples and instruction sheets.
Cost: £35.00 per session (payable in advance) + materials
Equipment: Sewing kit, patterns and materials for your project, sewing machine.
I also have sewing machines and overlockers and lots of other equipment for use during the session. I am able to supply basic haberdashery and some fabrics for students to purchase at a reduced cost.

You are welcome to attend which group is most convienient each month. Workshop terms and conditions:
- To secure a workshop place fees are payable in advance.
- Fees paid are non-refundable.
- Unique Couture Tuition reserves the right to change the dates of sessions.
- Sewing machines, overlockers and any other electrical equipment brought to the venue must be in good working order and are for the owner's use only.
- Some venues require electrical equipment to be PAT tested prior to use -this is the responsiblity of the machine owner.

In reaction to a number of requests from NQT's and fashion graduates one-to-one or small group sessions tailored to your needs. Create a portfolio of garment construction techniques to use in teaching or as designer maker.

Textile Teacher Overlocker, Pattern Cutting, Sewing Skills Staff Development Days

Dates and venue by arrangement
Make the most of your school's overlockers in this 4 hour session. Starting with the basics discover easy threading, needle changing and how to balance the tension dials for a perfect stitch. Use the differential feed for stretch fabrics. Explore rolled hemming, rolled hemming with fishing line, using decorative threads, mock blanket stitch and wrapped stitch to produce a range of simple items.
Learn or refresh your pattern cutting and pattern adaptation skills to create more interesting and better fitting garments.
Explore your garment construction skills by building a portfolio of those basic but crucial techniques, fore example zips, seams, hems etc.
Or build a combination of the above to meet your requirements.
