Dressmaking Skills

Dates and venue by arrangement

One-to-one or small group sessions tailored to your requirements.  It could be basic dressmaking skills, getting the most from your sewing machine or overlocker, a specific technique or fitting problem or a project you're stuck on.

Cost:  £40 for half a day + materials

         £75 for a full day + materials

                                            

Overlocking for new owners, beginners and the terrified!

Various dates and venues by arrangement

 

The session will cover all those important basics that will help you tame and control your overlocker:

  • Changing the needles
  • Easy threading
  • Identifying and adjusting the tension dials to achieve perfect stitching
  • Starting and finishing methods
  • Narrow overlocking
  • Rolled hemming
  • Overlocker make to taken home

Cost: £40.00 including materials. 

Equipment required:  Overlocker, instruction manual, accessories & basic sewing kit.                    


Pattern Cutting - Skirt, Trouser or Bodice Block

Basic dressmaking skills required

Dates and venue by arrangements

Learn how to take your body measurements and use these to draft either a skirt, trouser block or bodice block.  Trace a pattern and make a toile (fitting shell) to give a fantastic fit. Explore simple adaptation ideas to give style to your garments.

Cost:  £40 for half a day + materials

Workshop terms and conditions:

  • To secure a workshop place fees are payable in advance.
  • Fees paid are non-refundable unless the place is reallocated.
  • Sewing machines, overlockers and any other electrical equipment brought to the venue must be in good working order and are for the owner's use only.

(Some venues require electrical equipment to be PAT tested prior to use -this is the responsiblity of the owner.)

                                        

Post Graduate and Newly Qualified teacher training in garment construction and Pattern Cutting

In reaction to a number of requests from NQT's and fashion graduates one-to-one or small group sessions tailored to your needs.  Create a portfolio of garment construction techniques to use in teaching or as designer maker.

Textile Teacher Overlocker, Pattern Cutting, Sewing Skills Staff Development Days

Make the most of your school's overlockers in this 4 hour session.  Starting with the basics discover easy threading, needle changing and how to balance the tension dials for a perfect stitch.  Use the differential feed for stretch fabrics.  Explore rolled hemming, rolled hemming with fishing line, using decorative threads, mock blanket stitch and wrapped stitch to produce a range of simple items.
